Even though the Osmo 360 has become the "specs monster" of panoramic cameras, as an experienced user of 360 panoramic cameras since the Insta360 X3, I think the Insta360 X5 is a much simpler and more efficient way to record, regardless of whether it's 8K or 5.7K.

Insta360 X5 vs DJI Osmo 360 Specifications Comparison
In terms of key specifications, the DJI Osmo 360 and Insta360 X5 are already market-leading 360-degree cameras, each with their own unique features.
With a 1-inch sensor, 10 Bit D-Log M color, and built-in storage, the Osmo 360 is ideal for professional creators who value night photography and post-production flexibility. In contrast, the Insta360 X5 features interchangeable lenses, AI editing support, InstaFrame and other creative features for content creators looking for ease of use.
Even though the DJI Osmo 360 is superior to the Insta360 X5 in terms of sensor size, acoustics, etc., the Insta360 X5 still has a winning edge over the DJI Osmo 360 in my personal opinion.
There are two reasons for this:One is the Insta360's rich accessory ecologyThe DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro is currently available with 43 accessories. Currently, the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro offers 43 accessories, some of which are compatible with the DJI Osmo 360, and only 30 to 40 of which can actually be used on the DJI Osmo 360. The Insta360 X5, on the other hand, has 97 accessories that cover a wide range of sports and creative needs. For example, when riding a motorcycle, you'll need to use the GPS Remote ControlDiving photography is highly dependent onInvisible Diving CaseThe X5 has the advantage in terms of the abundance of accessories and application scenarios. In terms of the abundance of accessories and application scenarios, X5 has an advantage.

The Insta360 X5's battery is integrated into the lid, while the DJI Osmo 360 has a separate battery

DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro and Osmo 360 Battery Compatibility

One of the advantages of the DJI Osmo360 is that it has a built-in 128GB (about 105GB actually available) of memory, so you can keep shooting even when you run out of memory or forget to insert the card.

Both cameras have convex lenses.

They're all about the same thickness.

The lightweight and compact design of the DJI Osmo360 is a clear advantage for helmet users, especially when wearing the helmet, as it takes up less space and improves comfort.

On the other hand, general users find the X5's vertical design more ergonomic and easier to operate. In contrast, the DJI Osmo 360, due to its larger size, makes it easier to touch the lens when holding it with one hand , making it less convenient to use.

Insta360 X5 is as thin as a smartphone, and its slim design makes it easy for women to use with one hand.

Both X5 and Osmo 360 support magnetic quick release mounts

Looking at the design from the outside, I have the following impressions
- Osmo 360
DJI Osmo 360 vs Insta360 X5 [Picture Quality Comparison
Picture Quality Comparison
Regarding image quality, frankly, everyone has different preferences; it's mainly a matter of personal taste. Let's first look at the differences between the two: This video was shot at 2 PM on a hot August afternoon in clear weather. Both cameras were shot in preset 8K mode, with no adjustments made to white balance or saturation. The Insta360 X5 exhibits a distinct blue tone, while the DJI Osmo 360 leans towards a warmer tone.
On a sunny day, the sky's color is closer to the vibrant blue hue displayed by the Insta360 X5.

In terms of detail resolution, although both are 8K, the X5 retains the texture better, making the clouds look more three-dimensional.

However, the DJI Osmo 360 has HDR enabled by default , so it also retains color information from distant scenes.
I feel the DJI Osmo 360 has more color detail, and the HDR effect is clearly noticeable when taking selfies. The X5 often produces a white halo around the sun, but the Osmo 360 is less affected by the sun. Additionally, even in backlight, the Osmo 360 doesn't darken faces. Although both panoramic cameras perform similarly in backlight, the Osmo 360's image is noticeably brighter.

The Insta360 X5 has a sharp contrast, making the image look more like it was taken with a "camera"; the DJI Osmo 360 , on the other hand, has a softer contrast, giving it a more comfortable feel, like it was taken as a "portrait".

When you take a selfie in strong backlight, the DJI Osmo 360 performs really well. Whether it's front lighting or backlighting, the sky color doesn't change much, thanks to the automatically enabled HDR.

However, it's worth noting that there will be some noise in shadow areas when HDR is on, and facial details will be more noticeable. For example, my right side of my face looks a bit rough in the photo. This is a common drawback of HDR when brightening dark areas. The Insta360 X5 can achieve higher resolution in 8K mode, probably because HDR is not enabled.

Since the X5 has to go down to 5.7K to turn on HDR, we'll be comparing this next.
HDR Comparison
Personally, I prefer to shoot in 5.7K HDR mode on the Insta360 X5 rather than 8K mode, so I record almost entirely in 5.7K mode in my daily life.
With HDR turned on, the overall image style of the Insta360 X5 is closer to that of the DJI Osmo 360, with only a slight difference in white balance, and the overexposed whiteness near the sun has been improved considerably. What's more, it can also effectively minimize dark circles on the face and enhance skin texture in selfie scenes.
Although the performance of both cameras in backlit scenes is not perfect, but for selfie needs, both can bring a good shooting experience, fully able to meet the daily use.

When set to 5.7K HDR, the X5 is easy to use for selfies, but will the image quality deteriorate if the resolution is reduced to 5.7K?
I don't really mind. In fact, even at 5.7K, the X5 still performs excellently in rendering cloud textures and details in grass and fields. Although the DJI Osmo 360 also uses HDR, its lower contrast results in a softer HDR effect. Zooming in, the DJI Osmo 360 does show more detail in distant buildings in 8K mode, but this could also be due to its lower contrast making details more noticeable.

The Insta360 X5 boasts excellent contrast and depth, making it particularly effective for landscape selfies. However, if selfies are your primary focus, the DJI Osmo 360 would be a better choice. People who enjoy outdoor activities may not have such high demands for selfies, so I personally prefer the X5.

Speaking of color tone, the Insta360 X5's colors feel quite close to reality. For example, the color of asphalt is very close to what the naked eye sees in terms of color and resolution. Furthermore, when shooting with HDR enabled, the X5 is better at suppressing overexposure of the sun. For instance, in this photo I took at 5 PM, the X5 handles backlighting and overexposure quite well.
DJI Osmo 360 vs Insta360 X5 [Night Shot Comparison].
Performance differences are more pronounced in nighttime image quality, so understanding the low-light performance of each product can help you determine which color rendering is more appropriate.
In terms of night shooting performance, the Insta360 X5 performs better. Dark areas maintain their proper depth and are unaffected by external light, while details in bright areas are also preserved. Upon zooming in, it's noticeable that the DJI Osmo 360 exhibits overexposure, while the X5 retains color information and resolution more completely.
The Insta360 X5 delivers excellent color reproduction and light suppression in dark environments, and the wide-angle lens also delivers excellent image quality.

Insta360 X5 Benefits
Easy-to-use vertical shapes
While the Insta360 X5 is 16 grams heavier than the DJI Osmo 360 , its vertical design makes it more comfortable to hold. One-handed operation is also easier, and it's less likely to slip. For me, these conveniences are more important than the few grams less weight; the overall camera feels better in hand. If I mainly record short videos for Instagram or YouTube Shorts, checking the recordings on the vertical screen is also more intuitive.
Sliding Touch
The DJI Osmo 360 starts up faster, but the Insta360 X5 offers smoother swipe controls. Both are among the most comfortable and user-friendly action cameras on the market, and ease of use is a common strength.
HDR Color Processing
DJI Osmo 360 Although it supports HDR at 8K, it feels like it's a bit of a step down from the X5's HDR and 8K.

Image Quality for Landscape Photography
I think the DJI Osmo 360 is better suited for selfies, while the X5 is better for landscapes. For me, a 360° camera is mainly used to capture landscapes and people, not specifically for selfies. Appropriate resolution and contrast are essential to truly create beautiful and profound images.
InstaFrame Mode
With traditional 360-degree cameras, you always have to recompose the video (select and crop the part you want to use from the 360-degree video) before you can share it. With the Insta360 X5 , you can skip the recomposition step by shooting in InstaFrame mode.
APP
From a hardware perspective, while the Insta360 X5 may not match the DJI Osmo 360 in some specifications, its most prominent advantage lies in its extremely user-friendly companion app – even novice users with no experience using panoramic cameras can quickly get started.
This ease of use is a core feature that Insta360 has accumulated through its long-term expertise in the 360° camera field. The Insta360 APP makes the entire process from video recording and post-production editing to posting to Instagram and YouTube seamless. If you lack confidence in your video editing skills and are looking for a hassle-free and efficient user experience, the Insta360 X5 would be a more suitable choice.
Night Shooting Performance
The Insta360 X5 's night shooting mode performs quite well, which is not surprising.
In fact, Insta360 has always been better than DJI in terms of color reproduction and light processing in low-light environments - even before the launch of the X5, the brand had already optimized the low-light shooting experience with its self-developed PureShot technology, which has been maturely applied to models such as the Ace Pro 2, showing that it has a long history of accumulation of technology in the field of low-light images. Insta360 has a long history in low-light imaging. Overall, the Insta360 not only delivers excellent and stable night-time image quality, but also runs reliably with its accompanying apps, allowing users to pursue image quality without worrying about software lag when creating nighttime or low-light scenes, making it more comfortable to use.

DJI Osmo 360 Benefits
Compact and lightweight
For everyday travel, the vertical shape of the Insta360 X5 makes it easier to hold. DJI Osmo 360 Its square and lightweight design makes it easy to attach to a helmet. Like the Osmo Action 5 Pro, DJI is popular among extreme sports enthusiasts.
Quick Start
Insta360 X5 The sliding operation of the DJI Osmo DJI Osmo 360 The startup time of the program is 0 seconds. Or more specifically, it starts in -0.1 seconds.
High Spec 8K 50 fps
The DJI Osmo 360 's high specifications are truly amazing. It's preset to shoot in 8K, and also supports 50fps and HDR, which puts a lot of strain on the camera, but it operates stably without any overheating concerns, and the battery life is also quite good. If its app and computer software were a bit more stable, it would be perfect.
take a picture of oneself
The Insta360 X5 's image quality is better suited for landscape photography , while the DJI Osmo 360's low-contrast image is better for selfies . This is because the DJI Osmo 360 has strong tolerance for backlighting, which can suppress lens flare and ghosting.

Continuity, Internal Storage, Microphone
DJI Osmo 360 Another advantage is its long battery life. Although its battery capacity is only 1950mAh, it's enough for nearly two hours of continuous shooting, longer than the X5. It not only accepts SD memory cards but also supports 105GB of built-in memory (equivalent to 90 minutes of 8K 30fps or 4 hours of 4K 30fps). It can also connect to two wireless microphones (the X5 only supports one).
However, Insta360 has already launched the X5's Enhanced Battery(2700mAh), and its battery life has been increased to a similar level after the replacement.
10 Bit for greater editing flexibility
We've previously discussed HDR color and noise control. If you have professional post-production needs, DJI might be a better choice. The DJI Osmo 360 supports 10-bit and Log format shooting in Pro mode, which can preserve the color details and brightness levels of the image to the greatest extent, providing greater freedom for post-production color grading and creative work.
