Best Insta360 Luna Ultra Accessories: Complete Recommendation List

Shoot with the Insta360 Luna Ultra for a couple of weeks and you’ll figure out the same thing I did: the camera out of the box is only half the story.

As Insta360’s first flagship pocket camera, the Luna Ultra packs a Leica 1-inch 8K main sensor, a 1/1.3-inch super telephoto lens, a triple-chip AI night mode, and a detachable transmission remote screen. No other pocket gimbal camera matches that spec sheet right now. But a lot of what makes this camera genuinely useful lives in the accessory ecosystem, and half of that ecosystem is skippable.

I’ve been testing the Luna Ultra since launch, and a clear hierarchy emerged: a few accessories earned a permanent spot in my bag, others I used twice and shelved. Every pick below gets a must-buy rating, the use cases where it actually matters, and straight buying advice, so you don’t end up owning all ten.

Best Insta360 Luna Ultra Accessories: Complete Recommendation List

Sliding Protective Back Case

Insta360 Luna Ultra sliding protective back case

Must-Buy Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It’s a plastic sleeve with one moving part. It’s also the accessory I reach for most.

SpecDetails
FunctionSlide down to shoot, push up to protect — all-in-one design
ProtectionCovers gimbal and lens; prevents scratches and impact during storage
ConvenienceOne-step slide-down powers on instantly — no flip-cover hassle
Best ForEveryday use, quick grab-and-shoot moments

The Luna Ultra is built around a slide-down-to-shoot interaction. With this case attached, you pull down and the camera wakes up ready to record. Push it back up after filming and the lens and gimbal are covered. That’s the whole trick, and it works.

Compare that to the standard cover: flip it open, power on, wait, then adjust. With the sliding case, a grab-and-shoot moment is one motion. And once it’s closed, the Luna Ultra goes straight into your pocket or bag with zero thought about scratched glass.

Battery Handle

Insta360 Luna Ultra battery handle grip

Must-Buy Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

SpecDetails
FunctionBuilt-in 1000mAh battery, charges while shooting, extends recording time
GripAdds grip surface area for more stable handheld shooting
ExtrasBottom 1/4″ tripod thread + deployable tripod base
Best ForTravel vlogging, all-day shoots, extended video recording

Standalone battery life is roughly 240 minutes at 1080p 24fps, and about 100–120 minutes of real-world 4K 60fps recording. If you shoot all day, the battery handle effectively doubles your runtime. You stop checking the battery meter and just shoot.

The bottom 1/4″ thread and fold-out tripod base mean you never have to take it off. Mount it on a selfie stick, stand it on a table, done. The grip alone justifies the price: the bare camera is narrow and gets uncomfortable after an hour in hand, and the handle fixes exactly that.

Honestly, this is the one accessory I slapped on and never took off.

Luna Ultra Protective Cover

Insta360 Luna Ultra protective cover case

Must-Buy Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you’d rather have a classic flip cover and pay less, this is the one.

SpecDetails
FunctionFull-wrap protection, scratch and dust resistant
DesignFlip-cover opening, intuitive operation
PortabilitySlim profile adds minimal bulk, pocket-friendly
Best ForDaily commute, storage protection, budget-friendly starter option

The standard Protective Cover wraps the body, gimbal, and lens area for basic protection in storage and transit. You lose the slide-down shortcut of the sliding case, so opening is slower. But if you’re not constantly quick-drawing the camera, that’s a trade worth making for the lower price.

Magnetic Mount

Insta360 Luna Ultra magnetic mount extension bracket

Must-Buy Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Nobody gets excited about a magnetic adapter. Mine gets used almost every shoot. It answers a boring but constant question: how do you get the camera on and off a mount fast?

SpecDetails
FunctionMagnetic quick-release, one-second mount and dismount
ExpandabilityBottom standard 1/4″ thread, compatible with most tripods and selfie sticks
PortabilityCompact size, pocketable
Best ForDesktop shooting, car mounting, selfie stick pairing, multi-angle setups

The appeal is pure speed. Snap the camera on, it locks. Pull it off, done. If you bounce between a selfie stick, a tripod, and a car mount in a single afternoon, this little bracket saves you real time.

The 1/4″ thread on the bottom connects to basically every tripod, selfie stick, and car mount on the market. One cheap adapter, and the Luna Ultra plugs into the rest of your gear.

Mini Magnetic Fill Light

Insta360 Luna Ultra mini magnetic fill light

Must-Buy Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Shoot portraits at night or indoors? This tiny light does more for faces than anything else in the lineup.

SpecDetails
FunctionMagnetic fill light with adjustable color temperature and brightness
MountingMagnetically attaches to the Luna Ultra body
Color TemperatureWarm / Natural / Cool White
Best ForPortraits, selfies, backlit fill lighting

The Luna Ultra’s triple-chip night mode is genuinely good at brightness. What it can’t do is add shape. Portraits shot in night mode tend to look flat, evenly lit, a bit clinical. A physical fill light puts dimension back into faces, and that single difference is what separates “shot on a gadget” from “shot on a camera.”

The color temperature switch earns its keep too. Warm for moody portraits, natural for vlogs, cool white when you need clean light and nothing else.

If you regularly shoot at night or in dim interiors, this fill light will see more use than you’d expect.

POV Head Tracker

Insta360 Luna Ultra POV head tracker module

Must-Buy Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

This is the strangest accessory in the lineup, and the most interesting. Without it, the Luna Ultra is a very good gimbal camera. With it, the camera looks where you look.

SpecDetails
FunctionEar-worn sensor, camera gimbal follows head movement in real time
ConnectionBluetooth direct pairing, no extra setup required
ResultNatural first-person view — what you see is what you shoot
Best ForCycling, hiking, travel exploration, cooking, DIY crafts

Setup takes a minute: wear the Head Tracker on your ear, pair it over Bluetooth, done. Look left and the lens pans left. Look down and it tilts down. Play back the footage and it matches your actual line of sight.

Helmet-mounted action cams have always had two problems: tilted horizons and framing that’s half sky, half ground. The Luna Ultra’s gimbal auto-levels, so neither happens here. The footage just sits level and steady while your head does the directing.

The first time I played back Head Tracker footage, it didn’t look like action cam footage at all. It looked like what I actually saw.

Wide Angle Lens

Insta360 Luna Ultra wide angle lens attachment

Must-Buy Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

The main camera’s 20mm equivalent is already wide. Shoot selfie vlogs or film indoors, though, and 20mm still runs out of room.

SpecDetails
FunctionMagnetic attachment, expands main lens from 20mm to 15mm equivalent
MountingMagnetic snap-on, one-second install and remove
EffectNoticeably wider field of view; face won’t fill the entire frame in selfies
Best ForVlog selfies, indoor shooting, travel landscapes, group shots

No clips, no screws. Hold it over the main lens and it snaps on magnetically. The jump from 20mm to 15mm shows up immediately in selfies: your arm doesn’t need to be fully extended, your face stops filling the frame, and the background finally gets to exist.

For travel vlogging this is the first add-on lens I’d buy. Wider landscapes, easier selfie framing, and you can pop it off mid-shoot without breaking your flow.

ND Filter Set

Insta360 Luna Ultra ND filter set ND4 ND16 ND64

Must-Buy Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Care about image quality? You’ll end up buying ND filters eventually. Might as well know why now.

SpecDetails
IncludesND4, ND16, ND64 — three-filter set
FunctionReduces light intake, enables slow shutter speeds in bright conditions
EffectNatural motion blur, more cinematic footage
Best ForOutdoor daylight shooting, YouTube / Instagram content creation

ND filters are sunglasses for your camera. In bright outdoor light, the shutter speed gets forced high, and footage turns overly crisp and harsh because there’s no natural motion blur. Drop an ND filter in and you can pull the shutter back down to 1/60s or 1/120s. Movement smooths out, backgrounds blur the way they do in actual cinema.

The set covers three strengths:

  • ND4: Overcast days or early morning / late evening
  • ND16: Standard sunny daylight
  • ND64: Harsh sunlight, snow, or other high-intensity light environments

Honestly, ND filters aren’t a day-one purchase for beginners. But if you’ve been shooting for a few weeks and start feeling your footage looks “too much like a phone camera,” it’s time to get them.

Black Mist Filter

Insta360 Luna Ultra black mist diffusion filter

Must-Buy Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Another filter I leave on more often than I expected.

SpecDetails
FunctionSoftens highlights, diffuses halation, creates cinematic color tone
EffectNatural glow on highlights, smoother skin tones
Best ForPortrait shooting, city night scenes, atmospheric creative work

The Black Mist Filter puts a soft halo around highlights while leaving shadows and sharpness alone. Skin tones come out smoother and more flattering in portraits. At night, streetlights and neon bloom instead of glaring, which is where the “cinematic” reputation comes from.

Unlike an ND filter, it doesn’t touch exposure. It changes the texture of the light. If you’re chasing that vintage film look, this is the cheapest route there, no grading required.

One heads-up though: the Black Mist Filter’s effect is subtle in bright daylight — night scenes and backlit environments are where it truly shines. If you primarily shoot during the day, ND filters should be your higher priority.

Neck Mount

Insta360 Luna Ultra neck mount for POV shooting

Must-Buy Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

The Head Tracker’s best friend, and the cheapest way into POV shooting.

SpecDetails
FunctionMounts the Luna Ultra at chest level, hands-free
Shooting AngleNatural first-person perspective from chest height
Best ForTravel walks, cooking, product unboxing, DIY crafts

The logic is dead simple: hang the Luna Ultra at chest height and it records whatever’s in front of you. Pair it with the Head Tracker and the combo clicks, the gimbal follows your gaze while the chest-level angle reads more naturally than any helmet mount I’ve used.

My favorite use is travel walk footage. No hands, no framing, nothing to think about. The camera follows your gaze, and you get the most natural first-person footage I’ve pulled from this camera.

Choose by Use Case

Can’t decide? Start with the case and the battery handle, then add whatever matches how you actually shoot.

Conclusion

That’s the full lineup as it stands. My honest take: buy the sliding case and battery handle regardless, then let your actual shooting habits pick the rest. I’ll keep this page updated as Insta360 releases new Luna Ultra accessories, and as my opinions on the current ones change.
