DJI Osmo Action 6 Availability
The debut of Osmo Action 6 means that the positioning of "sports cameras" may be undergoing a fundamental change - unlike the previous fine-tuning of functions, Osmo Action 6 has been upgraded to bring a quantum leap in terms of sensor size, lens, and coding system. In terms of product positioning, DJI's goal is clear: to create an all-in-one camera that combines high definition with extreme portability for extreme athletes, professional photographers, and content creators.

Biggest competitor Insta360 is also making major moves, officially launching the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 “Flash Print Kit” and “Image Guru Suite” on 12 November. The Ace Pro 2 was first released in October 2024, just over a year ago. With the launch of these new bundles, Insta360 is expected to release the Ace Pro 3 within the next six months, positioning it as a direct competitor to the DJI Osmo Action 6.

Upgrade 1: 1/1.1" square sensor + 2-speed variable aperture
The biggest breakthrough of the DJI Osmo Action 6 lies in its image sensor — it is equipped with a custom-developed 1/1.1-inch stacked CMOS sensor co-engineered by DJI and Sony. This sensor size not only surpasses the standard dimensions commonly seen in traditional action cameras, but also steps directly into the high-end smartphone class, laying a strong foundation for an all-round upgrade in image quality.
Meanwhile, the Osmo Action 6 is set to become the world’s first action camera equipped with a variable aperture. Its aperture can be physically adjusted between F2.0 and F4.0, with an equivalent focal length of 16mm.

The F2.0 large aperture ensures sufficient light intake in extreme low-light conditions, while the F4.0 small aperture helps prevent overexposure in bright outdoor environments. This allows creators to operate it just like a professional camera, enabling precise exposure control to perfectly balance both low-light performance and depth-of-field requirements.
But compared to its predecessor, the Osmo Action 5 Pro, the Osmo Action 6 will also have a larger body.

Upgrade 2: Professional Video Specification, 32x Super Slow Motion

Upgrade 3: Ultra Durable + 50 GB Internal Storage

Upgrade 4: Eco-linkage Upgrade
Osmo Action 6 supports OsmoAudio™ audio ecosystem, which allows you to connect two DJI Mic 2 or Mic Mini transmitters via Bluetooth at the same time, eliminating the need for a receiver. Whether you're in an extreme sports situation or recording a VLOG, you'll be able to enjoy clear, stable audio. In addition, Osmo Action 6 batteries are compatible with Osmo Action 5 Pro and Osmo 360 panoramic cameras. For those who have more than one Osmo series camera, this unified ecosystem not only effectively reduces the cost of purchasing accessories, but also provides more flexibility for creativity.
Osmo Action 6 also includes smartwatch connectivity for remote control, GPS tracking, heart rate synchronisation, and accurate integration of real-time data such as speed and altitude, to dramatically enhance the sports photography experience.

DJI Osmo Action 6 Disadvantages
- Higher price: The standard version is priced at HKD $3,349, which is significantly higher than the previous Action 5 Pro (HKD $2,899); the cost is further increased by purchasing additional accessories such as batteries and waterproof cases.
- Limited Picture Quality Improvement: With regular 4:3 recording, the actual image area of the 1/1.1-inch sensor is not much different from the 1/1.3-inch area of the Action 5 Pro, making it difficult to perceive a significant improvement in picture quality in everyday scenes with sufficient light.
- Functionality and accessory compatibility issues: New features such as Starmount and Macro are of low utility to the average person;
Physical construction of the camera with variable aperture increases the risk of durability Some of the old accessories (e.g. protective frames) are not compatible with the new interface.
