Charging is done by inserting the Type-C cable directly into the device, so extra care should be taken to avoid the device coming into contact with water to prevent damage. If the device is used in an environment away from water, there is no need to worry too much.

The lens protector is cleverly designed and can be easily removed with a simple twist. If the cover is accidentally scratched, you only need to replace this part, which is economical and convenient, without the need to replace the whole lens.

GO 3S Operation/Recording Settings

Next, we will explain the basic operation of GO 3S.

Slide down from the top to the bottom to display the basic settings.

Each setting has an icon, but if you click on it you will see detailed instructions and how to set it up, so we won't go into detail here.

Tap the Viewing Angle icon in the lower right corner, and you can select a wide-angle or distortion-corrected viewing angle that suits the scene.

My personal recommendation is the "Mega Wide Angle" which is easy to use and captures a wide range of images while minimizing distortion.

Slide from the bottom to the top to adjust the ratio setting according to the mode. In Photo mode, you can adjust the aspect ratio and timer settings and select Raw or PureShot.

In the shooting mode, the video resolution and frame rate are also items that often need to be checked and set.

You can change the shutter speed when taking a picture by swiping left or right on the screen.

Basically, you can't go wrong by keeping it in auto mode, but you can also change the exposure and white balance to suit the scene to create more vivid or emotional colors.

First of all, this is a video I took while walking in the area.

Overall, the color performance is natural and accurate, and thanks to the abundant sunlight, outdoor landscapes are clearly captured with rich details and bright images. I also tried running with it and the results showed that the movie was very stable, with hardly any camera shake, and the anti-shake effect was satisfactory.

It's worth mentioning that the song of a distant Japanese warbler can be clearly heard in the movie, and the sound is captured completely and delicately, demonstrating the GO 3S's excellent ability in audio capture.

First of all, in terms of overall color, the GO 3S has a color scheme that is closer to its actual appearance.

This photo was taken on a rainy day the day before, so the road was damp, but the GO 3S makes it easier to see the wet texture.

Simply put, GO 3S gives you a sense of depth and dimension.

As for the angle of view when taking selfies, the colors on the GO 3S are closer to what you actually see.

As you can see, the backlighting seems to have less of an effect on the colors, so the skin tones may look better on the GO 3S.

When it comes to images with strong contrast between light and dark, the image quality may be affected.

It may be easier to see this in the video, but in the photos you can see that at this moment in time, the rear blocks of the GO 3 have been blown up.

The lighting on the GO 3S isn't great either, but I still think it does a better job than its predecessor.

While everyone has their own preference for color, you can change the hue using the Vivid, City, and Portrait filters, as well as set the white balance.

GO 3S now produces more natural colors at normal settings, giving you more freedom for post-editing.

I mounted the camera body to the flexible mount on the basket and took photos. The new super wide angle lens allows you to capture wide angle images with minimal distortion, allowing you to capture shots of yourself and your surroundings.

This photo was taken while I was fishing.

To capture the flow of the water, I set the camera's shutter speed to 1/2 second and took the picture in Manual Mode, which gives the effect of a soft flow of water. I stabilized the camera carefully to avoid any blurring caused by the shot.

In this process, the anti-shake function plays an important role, effectively reducing camera shake.

Dog's Perspective

The GO 3S is a handy little camera, light enough to fit easily on a selfie stick and swing it around.

One of its features is its ability to capture the rapid movement of animals, which is especially helpful for me in photographing dog activities. Due to the compact size of the camera, it doesn't interfere with the dog's natural movements.

The GO 3S has a very short minimum shooting distance, so even when the lens is very close to the object, the image is still clear and not blurred, which is very useful.

PureShot

PureShot is a very useful feature designed to increase sensitivity and reduce noise when taking night shots. When enabled in the camera's photo settings, it works effectively in low-light conditions.

One of the biggest advantages of this feature is its ability to brighten up otherwise dull-looking subjects in backlit or dimly lit scenes. And PureShot does a great job of reducing noise, ensuring that nighttime photos are both sharp and detailed, with high quality results even in dimly lit environments.

However, the GO 3S also saves unedited photos as RAW, so you can edit them later.

This is a photo taken with GO 3. I opened the shutter for about 15 seconds and accidentally took a very beautiful starry sky.

PureShot can be enabled with one simple setting, which is a feature I really want to actively use!

Free Recording Mode

The GO 3S offers an independent shooting mode called "Free Recording Mode", a feature that brings great flexibility to post-production.

In this mode, you can freely adjust the aspect ratio of the video after shooting without worrying about the image being cut off or distorted, which is very practical for users who pursue perfect composition. For example, you can adjust the aspect ratio to 16:9 for YouTube or 9:16 for short video platforms, so that the same video can be easily adapted to different media.

This feature not only enhances the convenience of filming, but also provides more room for content creators to create videos that can be more flexibly applied to a variety of scenes, truly realizing the efficient workflow of "one shot, multi-platform application".

GO 3S Other Recommended Shooting Settings

Time-lapse photography

Time-lapse recording is a function that takes a picture every 0.5 seconds to a few seconds and plays it back frame by frame to make a short movie. The above video was taken at 0.5 second intervals and is great for capturing someone's movement or creation.

If you are photographing sunrise or moving clouds, I recommend setting it for about 4 to 10 seconds.

Time Shift

TimeShift is like time-lapse photography, you can use it on the move and can adjust the speed later.

Slow motion

In 4K, you can only shoot at a maximum of 30 fps, but you can increase the frame rate by lowering the frame rate by one level, and the slow motion of the GO 3S can be slowed down to 200 fps when shooting at 1080P.

200fps is a level where you can shoot smoothly even at 4x slow motion. If you're shooting at about 2x slow motion, I'd say 2.7K 100fps is good enough.

Cycle Shooting

This mode deletes data that exceeds the set time limit.

You can choose to record up to 30 minutes of content to use as a car recorder, or you can choose to keep about 5 minutes of footage, such as footage of a fish being hooked while fishing.

Starry Night Mode

A mode that captures the passing of the stars throughout the night. I recommend shooting for at least 4 to 6 hours, using a tripod and charging the GO 3S instantly.

Interval Shooting

This is a mode for taking pictures at regular intervals, which is ideal for capturing the excitement of a particular moment.

Photographs taken in this way can be linked to a time-lapse movie in post-production to show the effect of the passage of time.

Since the photos were taken individually at regular intervals, you can select the most satisfying shots from among them, which is more flexible than taking stills from a movie.

This mode is less affected by camera shake than direct movie recording, and captures sharp images more consistently. This mode is especially useful when you want to capture a precise moment in time, especially for landscapes, events, or scenes that require high-quality still images.

HDR Photography

HDR is a function that takes both dark and bright photos to produce photos with a wide dynamic range. It can be used at night when there is a large difference in brightness, or indoors near a window.

Images are easily blurred, so if you try to keep them as still as possible, you'll end up with a vivid photo with clear colors.

With its lightweight design and convenient operation, the O 3S is the ideal VLOG camera for capturing precious memories on the go.

You can use the Timeshift function to record dynamic scenes in the streets of your town, or transfer the footage to your phone so that the Insta360 APP's AI can automatically edit the video for you. Photographing children or pets

On sunny days, the difference in quality specifications between different cameras is reduced, so sometimes the smaller GO 3S may be easier to use than a high-performance sports camera. For example, the GO 3S is also highly suitable for motorcycle cycling.

Many Insta360 users have also chosen the GO series as their entry-level sports camera.

GO 3S Microphone

The microphone of GO 3S is in the same position as GO 3. You can see a hole on the side of the Action Pod.

You can change the microphone mode in the setup screen, but I didn't notice much difference between the three modes, so I think the default setting of Wind Noise Reduction is OK.

New utility features added to GO 3S

Here are some useful features that have been added to GO 3S. Some features are also available on Ace Pro and X4, while others are only available on GO 3S.

Gesture Control

Gesture Control first appeared on the Ace Pro, but is now available on the GO 3S.

When Gesture Control is turned on in the setup screen, it is activated in either Movie Mode or Photo Mode. The activation condition is that your face is visible and the camera will respond by pointing the logo corresponding to each mode at the camera.

It won't react if you're too close or too far away, and the gesture control is very convenient for selfies.

Apple Find My

This feature helps you find your missing GO 3S using Apple Find.

Cancel Video

The Ace Pro and X4 also have the ability to cancel recording in the middle of a session. If something interrupts you while you're recording a movie and you don't think it's necessary, you can stop recording by pressing and holding the Record button.

I've gotten into the habit of deleting unwanted videos immediately, which makes it much easier to clean up my video data when I get home. The system confirms that you want to delete a movie before it is deleted, so accidental deletions are less likely to happen.

Easy switching of aspect ratios

To change the aspect ratio on the GO 3, you must go to the settings screen and select an aspect ratio, such as 16:9 or 9:16. In the same way as a cell phone, the GO 3S now detects the tilt automatically. This prevents setting errors and makes it easier and more intuitive to select the aspect ratio.

Water Resistance of GO 3S

The waterproofing standards for the camera body and the main body of the camera are different. the GO 3S single camera body is waterproof to a depth of 10m and can be submerged in water. Please note that the waterproof rating of Action Pod is IPX4, which is suitable for daily use, not fully waterproof. Underwater photography can only be done with a single camera.

GO 3S Image Stabilization

The GO 3S is a compact camera, but it has excellent stabilization and is good enough to be used for recording video VLOGs while traveling.

GO 3S Post-Edit

Videos shot with the GO 3S can be smoothly connected to your phone via the Insta360 APP, and video editing is easy. From 2023 onwards, this trend will be especially evident in Insta360, where connectivity and editing will become easier and simpler.

Now you can preview the videos and images you've taken with your GO 3S on your Action Pod, then click the download icon in the lower right corner to transfer them to the Insta360 APP in one step.

You can simply collect a few videos that have been transferred and then pass the edits to the Insta360 APP.

Unlike 360-degree panoramic movies, GO 3S video processing is very fast, so I think I only had to wait 2 to 3 minutes for the auto-generated movie to be ready.

The video editing is done entirely by AI without any human intervention.

Edit to your liking

Of course, AI auto editing is easy, but if you are familiar with editing, editing by yourself is also easy and recommended. Using the PC software "Insta360 Studio" or the Insta360 APP mobile app, you can simply edit the videos taken by the GO 3S, such as adding effects and text.

With 128GB, you can shoot 4K30fps for up to 2 hours and 54 minutes, enough for about 3 hours of continuous shooting.

This option is OFF by default, so I personally recommend setting it to ON.

Auto Mode
